The main downside of the
electric trimmers is the need to run a cord to a power outlet and walk
that cord around your yard while you trim the grass. This isn't a very
big deal if you have a small yard with electrical access. However, if
you have a larger yard, it becomes too difficult and you'll find
cordless grass trimmers to be a better fit.
Cordless grass trimmers come in the following two flavors:
1) Gas Power
Trimmers
If you're handy in the yard, like tinkering with things, and love
power, then the gass power trimmer is the option for you.
These types of trimmers basically have the same upkeep as a lawn mower.
They need gas and oil, and sometimes require mixing the two together.
Most also require a pull start using a cord, like a lawn mower.
Sometimes starting these guys can get a little nasty.
Grass trimmers usually pack the most power and are the choice
for trimming large lots.
2) Battery

Trimmers
If you don't want to mess with gas and oil, or worry about an extension
cord getting tangled up, then a good battery powered rechargeable grass
trimmer is the answer for you.
Battery power trimmers are very easy to use. Simply charge the battery,
plug the battery into the trimmer, find the weeds or grass that need
trimming, and push the button.
Which ever cordless trimmer you pick, be sure to pick up a well known
name brand unit. Stay away from the introductory units that are usually
littered throughout the sales section of the Sunday paper. These low
cost trimmers are usually severely underpowered and make the simplest
weed removal a workout. |
