Go back in time to 2006 and you'll find me complaining how I almost called it quits for the season in terms of edging my lawn...

At that time, Unfortunately, I had gone through three new string gas trimmers and all three fell apart in different ways. It's almost as if the things didn't want to touch my lawn!

I was more than frustrated and the grass by my garage was getting longer each passing day, basically mocking me.

That season I went through 3 trimmers but only 2 brands. I bought the first trimmer at my local hardware store. It was a no-name brand and the price was right, so I picked one up. Unfortunately, I ended up pulling the cord out on the 3rd pull.

I took the trimmer back to the hardware store and they re-strung it for me. It worked twice after that then on the third time the plastic handle broke off making it extremely awkward to control. No, this time the hardware store couldn't fix it. They said I must have been "too rough on it". I had to bite my tongue on that one.

I moved on and eventually figured I got what I paid for, which was only $69.95, so I wrote it off and went looking for another. I ended up spending $125 on another trimmer. The make of the trimmer was also not very well known, but the salesman sold me on how well it does the job, so I took it home.

After another 2 trim jobs the head of the unit basically feel off while I was using it. I called the store and they said they would have to send it away to get it fixed. I sent it back for fixing with the plan that I was going to sell it as soon as I got it back, and I did.

Now, I only have half an acre of land, so I'm not abusing these things! I became determined to find one that worked…

I started asking around especially the professional lawn service guys I would see cutting lawns. I also ended up doing some digging on the Internet. It wasn't long before I realized that there were basically two groups of gas string trimmers - those that work well and those that fail well. The big name brands were where you want to be in terms of buying a quality gas trimmer.

I ended up buying a good Echo trimmer for a great deal and I've been happy every since. This trimmer is as durable as they come. I can't imagine it being any more durable. I've dropped it, it fell from my wall where it was hanging, I even put the wrong mixture of gas/oil in it (lol), but it starts like a champ and continues to run each and every time. It's kind of like I literally can't do anything to stop it from running. A nice change and well worth the money.

Actually, I ended up paying less for my Echo than I did for the second piece of garbage I bought, and that's because I found some great deals online for quality brand name trimmers. I've created a program on this site to show you similiar great deals at Echo Trimmers for Sale.

Happy Trimming!
